Briefly explain what are acidic, neutral and basic gases.
Answers
Acidic gases
Strictly speaking, a sour gas is any gas that specifically contains hydrogen sulfide in significant amounts; an acid gas is any gas that contains significant amounts of acidic gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) or hydrogen sulfide. ... Thus, carbon dioxide by itself is an acid gas but not a sour gas
Basic gases
Alkaline gases are any gaseous compounds that form an alkali (or basic) solution with a pH greater than 7 when dissolved in water. Ammonia is the most common alkaline gas.
Neutral gases
A neutral gas is one that is stable (meaning it has 8 valence electrons in its outer level already and does not need to react to achieve these 8 electrons). These gases are also called Noble gases. Helium is considered a neutral gas because it only has one energy level and can only hold 2 electrons.

- The pH scale measures how acidic or basic a substance is. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is neutral. A pH less than 7 is acidic. A pH greater than 7 is basic.
