in ionic compounds ,the formation of these compounds is between there ions as one element loose the electron and other gain the electron toh form anion and cation therefore ionic compounds are good conductors of heat and light on the other hand covalent bonds are form by mutual sharing of electrons and these bonds are not very strong hence poor conductor of heat and light
