ALLUVIAL SOIL:-

  • The entire northern plains are made up of alluvial soil.

  • These have been deposited by three Important Himalayan river system - Indus, Ganga and Brahmaputra

  • It consists of sand ,silt and clay.

  • These soil also extended in Rajasthan and Gujarat through narrow corridor. Also found in eastern coastal plains particularly in the deltas of Mahanadi ,Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri.

  • Rich in pottash ,phosphoric acid and lime.

  • Ideal for the growth if Sugarcane, Paddy wheat and other cereal crops.

BLACK SOIL :-

  • These soil are black in colour and also known as regur soil.

  • It is made up of clayey material.

  • They cover the plateaus of Maharashtra, Saurashtra, Malwa, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgrah and extend in south east direction along the Godavari and Krishna Valley.

  • They are well known for their capacity to hold moisture.

RED AND YELLOW SOIL:-

  • Red soil develops on crystalline igneous rock in the areas of low rainfall in eastern and Southern parts of Deccan Plateau .

  • These soils develop a reddish colour due to diffusion of iron in crystalline and Metamorphic rock.

  • Ideal for the growth of rice wheat and sugarcane maize/corn.

  • They are found in parts of Odisha ,Chhattisgarh, southern parts of middle Ganga plain and along the piedmont zone of Western Ghat.

LATERITE SOIL :-

  • The laterite soil developed under tropical and subtropical climate with alternate wet and dry season.

  • Laterite soil are are mostly deep to very deep and acidic in nature generally deficient in plant nutrients and occur mostly in Southern States - Western Ghats region of Maharashtra, Odisha some parts of West Bengal and north east regions.

  • Ideal for the growth of crops like cashew nut, tea and coffee

  • These Soils are also found in hilly areas of Karnataka Kerala and tamilnadu also in Andhra Pradesh.

ARID SOIL :-

  • Arid soils range from red to brown in colour and they are generally Sandy in texture and saline in nature.

  • Due to dry climate ,high-temperature ,evaporation is faster and soil lacks humus and moisture.

  • India arid soils are mainly found in western Rajasthan Haryana and Punjab and it extends to also in Rann of Kutch in Gujarat.

  • Soils are not fertile, but proper irrigation they become cultivable.

  • They are ideal for the growth of Barley, cotton wheat, millet Maize and pulses.

FROEST SOIL :-

  • These Soils are found in hilly and mountainous Areas where sufficient rainforest are available.
