British rule led to the slow economic growth of India and this annoyed the Indians. Moderates were the people who believed in confrontation, reconciliation and fair play but gradually the moderate policies were disliked by many and this paved way for the intensification of militant nationalism.
British Government miserably failed by not creating enough employment opportunities for Indians and most of them were low paid. British also deliberated Divide and rule policy which created a major gulf in between the Muslims and Hindus.
Many extremist leaders instilled and inspired common men to protest the repressive policies of British and thus extremism was appreciated by the masses.
