Legislative assembly is the popular house where members are elected directly by the people for a term of five years where as the legislative council members are derived from various sections and streams of the society elected by different sections like panchayats,municipalities,legislative assembly,graduates etc.
Legislative assembly is called as vidhan sabha whereas the legislative council is called as vidhan parishad.
The strength of legislative assembly should not be less than 40 whereas the strength of the latter should not be less than 60.

Legislative assembly (Vidhan Sabha) is the lower house of the state government consisting of directly elected member of the people.
The Legislative council (Vidhan Parishad) is the upper house of the state government consisting of indirectly elected members, i.e. municipal bodies and panchayats elect them and some are nominated by the Governor.
