The poem is a satire on social discrimination by the world of nature and the world of human beings . The poet points out that human being who are supposed to be gods and have made life miserable for their fellow human being.

This clearly shows that one of the cruel problems of the society castism deeply rooted in it. The poet wants to convey the discrimination of the society should be erradicated . In this way social discrimination is brought out in the poem ' If I Was a Tree'.
