In the story, "Nitiya" by R.K. Narayan, Nitiya is a twenty-year-old boy who prefers looks more than the traditions and the rituals. Nitiya walked out of the temple showing his rejection of shaving off his hair. He does this in order to save him from the humiliation of his looks. For him looks matter more. He takes this decision opposing his parents, and traditions but later it is seen that in order to reach home he has to take the help of his father. This brings the humor in the story when it is seen that the rage and anger in which Nitiya left the temple gets preceded by the scene in which he is waiting at the bus stop for his parents to come.
