Answer:

In the section of the story that deals with  Muni's interactions with the American are a humorous one. The interactions between the foreigner are humorous because neither is well-spoken in the native language.

Muni is  Tami speaking, while the American speaks English. English words, one or two  Muni knew are "yes" and "no." It is an unfortunate matter because he uses both of them together when asked questions in English.

When the American asks about smoking, Muni answers, "Yes, no at the same time." This is a  humorous matter no doubt and is even funnier when the American promptly offers a cigarette to Muni, and Muni proceeds to smoke with cough his way while smoking.

Answer: Cross cultural differences bring out humour in the story. It brings out humour in the initial interactions between both Muni and the foreigner. The story deals with misunderstanding between muni and the American. Muni is the common villager from Tamil nadu. He knows only two words of english 'yes' and 'no'. He has no education and is superstitious almost about every aspect of life. On the other hand, the foreigner was well educated and affluent man. Due to difference in their languages the confusion came out. Both of them didn't knew each other's language, but instead act according to the action given by the other,in a way, which is completely irrelevant to the subject, the other one is actually talking about.

I knw u asked the que about muni and the shopman. Bt before me the ans is given about muni and the foreigner. So i answered.
