The story is humoured at several levels at the start with the irony in the opening lines of the story where the elder brother who is studious has to repeat his classes .The author brings in humour through language as well as situation.other situations like narratior's timetable the elder brothers ranting against the system, the fact that the elder brother field in spite of his efforts and younger one stand first in spite of his not working hard are also humerous situation!!
