They pretend that they are sorrowful but actually they are happy about it.
They just want to take costly things of grandpa and not worrying about what actually happened to him...

Stanley houghton title his play " the dear departed". the title itself brings out the irony in heart in it. Mr. Abel Mary weather role as grandfather in play. he is the "dear departed" in the drama. Ironically the"dear departed" is dear to non except victoria . for greedy, selfish, and deport critical daughter and there husband, the old man is nothing but a target of ridicule and mockery. slaters and Jordon have no feelings of love, great-attitude or sympathy for him. they didn't even wait for the cast rites of murrial for the division of things even the dear departed, after releasing the real quoting of his daughters declare to change his ironically he shocks by announcing marriage.
