in the play the grandfather is assumed to be dead and his daughters fight over materialistic possessions and are insensitive...there is no real love between the sisters or for their father
when the grandfather finds the truth and realizes about his daughters real emotions , he leaves their to get married and departs . He doesn't die or depart from the world but departs from the house leaving his daughters behind. Hence the title is ironical
