The values expressed in the Preamble are expressed as objectives of the Constitution. These are sovereignty, socialism, secularism, democracy, republican character of Indian State, justice, liberty, equality, fraternity, human dignity and the unity and integrity of the Nation.

Objective Resolution was passed by PT. Jawahar Lal Nehru on 13th December 1946 (in the first session of Constituent Assembly). It contained the basic ideology and philosophy upon which our Constitution should be drafted by makers. It consisted of principles like India should be Democratic, Sovereign, Republic State. The concept of federalism, speech, and expression, liberty and welfare State Principles were also instilled. It was later modified and became the Preamble to the Constitution which is an introduction to the objectives of the Constitution.
