Tata Iron and Steel Company began producing steel in 1912. Soon in 1914 first world war was broke out. Steel produced in Britain had to meet the demand of war in Europe. Import of British steel into India declined and the Indian Railway, that was expanded at the time, turned to TISCO for supply of rails.
