bro's father is three times as old as brim. if the sum of their ages is 72 years, find their ages.

I think u mistyped that bro's father. it should be brim's father.

ok now come to ur question...

brim's father is three times brim's age.

let the age of brim be x.

therefore age of his father = 3x.

sum of their ages is 72

==> x + 3x = 72

==> 4x = 72

==> x = 72/4

==> x = 18

hence, brim's age = x

= 18 years

his father's age = 3x

= 3 × 18

= 54 years
