If bromoethane is heated with sodium ethoxide then we will get diethylether. It is called Williamson's synthesis. This reaction goes via SN2 mechansm. Here sodium ethoxide attacks bromine containing carbon and bromide acts as leaving group. As a result we get diethyether and sodium bromide as pdts. In this process we can also prepare higher no of carbon containing ether by choosing either alkyl halide or sodium alkoxide.
