Bruce takes as two times much time as Jacob takes to complete a work and thrice as much as Sam takes. if all three take 12 days to complete a work, then how much time will Bruce alone take to complete the work ?​

Given:

Bruce takes as two times much time as Jacob takes to complete a work and thrice as much as Sam takes

All three take 12 days to complete a work

To find:

How much time will Bruce alone take to complete the work ?​

Solution:

Let's assume that

Bruce can complete the work in x days

Jacob will complete the work in x/2 days  

Sam will complete the work in x/3 days

From above

The work can be done by Bruce in 1 day = 1/x

The work can be done by Jacob in in 1 day = 2/x

The work can be done by Sam in 1 day = x/3

The work can be done by all three together in 1 day =1/x+2/x+x/3 = 6/x

Given that all three take 12 days to complete 1 work

⇒ 12(6/x) =  1

⇒ x = 12(6) = 72 days

The time taken by Bruce alone to complete the work = 60 days
