I will try to explain in simple term. In general, Cotton crops are prone to attack of Cotton Bollworms. This decrease the Cotton yield By the attacked plants (Just like pathogenic diseases in human). So, By using the Principle of Biotechnology people created Bt Cotton crops which contained the genes of Baccillus thuringenesis, A well known bacterium for bacteriologists. The speciality of this genes is, it secretes a Toxin named Bt - Toxin that kills the Cotton Bollworms attacking that Cotton crops. Inside the bacterium, it exists as inactive Toxin but gets activated By alkaline pH of the Gut. Thus, it is developed for Protection against Cotton Bollworms By the genes Cry I Ac and Cry II Ab into the plant
