Pest resistant crops. Pest resistant GM crops (primarilycotton and maize), have been genetically modified so they are toxic to certain insects. They are often called Bt crops because the introduced genes were originally identified in a bacterial species called Bacillus thuringiensis.

ANSWER:
BT crops are resistant to pest and the gene responsible for pest resistance is cry gene.
EXPLANATION:
The cry gene AC and AB which controls the cotton boll worms. The bt gene produces the bt toxins which produces the resistance to plant against lepidopteron, coleopteron and dipterans peats.
The gene from the bacteria encodes for the toxin which is incorporated. This activated bt toxin bind to the midgut area of the insects which eventually resulting in swelling and cell lysis, which leads to the cell death. These are highly insect specific, they do not harm crops or humans.
