It is definitely a coincidence only.
Although there are a lot of similarities between Mahavir and Gautama, it was all coincidences.
It was a coincidence that the mothers of Gautama and Mahavira had dreams that foretold that the boys would either become great religious leaders or great warriors.
Mahavira was born in Bihar, India, while Gautama was born in Kapilavastu, India (now Nepal). Gautama was surrounded by earthly pleasures and excesses to the point that he did not see anything dissatisfactory with the world for his father feared that Gautama would become a spiritual leader rather than a warrior. Mahavira lived a normal princely life until the age of 28 when both of his parents died and after that, he began his practice of self-denial and meditation.
The paths of these two men are very similar, their life choices follow the same path and the end result was the same.

Both Buddha and Mahavira accomplished edification and Nirvana. Both Buddha and Mahavira were sovereigns and denied their individual kingdoms at 30 years old. Mahavira's father's name was Siddhartha (Buddha's name), despite the fact that it is fascinating it is only a coincidence.Buddha's and Mahavira's some way or another about same.Though the time is same there are contrasts in practices.Mahavira practiced extraordinary self-denial, while the Buddha practiced in some other way and not as Mahavira's.
In regard to Enlightenment, it is seen both were accomplished almost same time, yet observing the conviction, Mahavira varies from Buddha the fundamental matter of Soul.Jains put stock in a spirit, while Buddhists don't have such belief. Both Mahavira and Buddha achieved the great acknowledgment and intelligence with a minor contrast about sentiments of Almighty.
