“There is a great confusion especially in my particular job between the words mystery and suspense. The two things are absolutely miles apart. Mystery is an intellectual process guessing “who’ve done it?” But suspense is essentially an emotional process.”
I still see this confusion today. A lot of writers think suspense is making the most twisted story, but it’s not about the story at all. It’s about storytelling. As Alfred said, suspense — is emotions. And emotions come from how you tell a story and not what you tell. I like the way Cambridge Dictionary defines suspense:
