Calculation :

  • Mass of bullet (m₁) = 0.02 kg
  • Mass of gun (m₂) = 10 kg
  • Velocity of gun (v₂) = 0.4 m/s
  • Initial velocity of bullet (v₁) = ?

We can find velocity of bullet by using the law of conservation of moment which says m₁v₁ = m₂v₂

From law of conservation of moment

→ m₁v₁ = m₂v₂

→ 0.02 * v₁ = 10 * 0.4

→ 0.02v₁ = 10 * 0.4

→ 0.02v₁ = 4

→ v₁ = 4/0.02

v₁ = 200

Hence, the velocity of bullet is 200 m/s.
