Tropical Evergreen of India are found in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands,[A] the Western Ghats

[B] which fringe the Arabian Sea, the coastline of peninsular India, and the greater Assam region in the north-east.

[C] Small remnants of evergreen forest are found in orissa state.

[D] Semi-evergreen forest is more extensive than the evergreen formation partly because evergreen forests tend to degrade to semi-evergreen with human interference. There are substantial differences in both the flora and fauna between the three major evergreen forest regions.[1]

Vegetation in these forests forms a canopy and has a layered structure with tall trees, trees of medium height, shrubs, creepers, grasses, ferns, mosses and fungi.

In the absence of a distinct dry season, the trees do not shed their leaves altogether and so the forests appear evergreen. Hardwood trees like mahogany, ebony and rosewood are commonly found in these forests.

The vegetation is dense and the thick canopy on the top prevents the penetration of sunlight, thus hampering the development of undergrowth.
