A physical change is reversible, a chemical change is not. Like take ice when it melted it turned into water but it can be changed back into its original state. As far as burning wood you can not reverse what has happened because after burning wood all you have is ash, carbon dioxide, etc, all new substances which weren't there when you started.

Burning is a irreversible change because it is a process in which it cannot be brought back into its original form. So burning of wood is an irreversible change. And burning of wood is also an chemical change.
