it is a physical change as by burning it changes from a cylindrical vessel to a spilled wax .

during the burning process chemical reaction is also taking place!!
so it is a physical not a chemical change
but it doesn't matter with the medium which is solid ok
new substance smoke is also produced
but smoke is produced after burning the thread not wax
