1) Burning of wood is an irreversible change because once the wood is burnt, it will get converted to ashes which cannot be further changed back to wood. Ashes is the final stage of the reaction and you will not get wood back anyway. That's why its an irreversible reaction.

2) Oxygen, a chemical element, participates in burning. A new substance, ash, is formed whose properties and outer appearance is totally different from the original substance wood. Hence, it is also a chemical change.
