Answer:
In the short story 'The Bond Of Love' by Kenneth Anderson, Bruno's coming into the narrator's family began with a tragedy.
One day the narrator, along with his friends, was passing through the sugarcane fields near Mysore. They saw people driving away the wild pigs from their fields by shooting at them. Suddenly, a female sloth bear came out of the fields and one of the narrator's companions shot it. They were watching the dead animal when they noticed the black fur on its back leave the body. It turned out to be a baby bear, who started making a pitiful noise on seeing its dead parent lying prostrate on the ground.
The narrator captured the baby sloth bear and wrapped it in a gunny bag. He later presented the bear to his wife, who was utterly delighted to have it and named it 'Bruno.'
