Hey there,

◆ Answer -

But-2-yne on chlorination gives 2,2,3,3-tetrachlorobutane.

◆ Reaction -

But-2-yne on chlorination in limted chlorine gives 2,3-dichlorobut-2-ene.

CH3-C≡C-CH3 + Cl2 --> CH3-C(Cl)=C(Cl)-CH3

2,3-Dichlorobut-2-ene on further chlorination with excess chlorine gives 2,2,3,3-tetrachlorobutane.

CH3-C(Cl)=C(Cl)-CH3 + Cl2 --> CH3-C(Cl)2-C(Cl)2-CH3

Hope this helps you. Thanks for asking.
