Duke's presence didn't even matter because Chuck was all alone in his house 'cause Marcy used to go to office in the morning and returning in the evening. So, Chuck was paralyzed and Duke couldn't do anything as he wasn't being said to. Hence, Chuck didn't got any better as Duke's presence didn't reach him.

Even Duke ' s presence didn ' t reach Chuck Hooper as at that time Hooper was paralysed and was bed ridden. Duck was very upset to see Chuck ' s condition and was sticked to a corner near Chuck ' s bed.
