However, he wondered if the fear of water would resurface when he was alone in the pool. So, in order to be sure of himself and overpower tiny vestiges of the old terror, he decided to swim alone in two lakes. Whenever the terror momentarily crept up, he stood up to it and controlled it. Finally, when he swam to the other shore and back at Warm Lake, he knew that he had overcome his fear.
