a. Name the poem and the poet.

My Mother at Sixty-six by Kamla Das

b. What thought did the poet put away?

The sad and depressing thoughts about ageing and death, particularly about her mother’s old age.

c. Why are the young trees described as sprinting?

It is a factual phenomenon that in a moving vehicle, the trees and other stationary objects appear to be moving in the opposite direction.

d. How do you know that the joyful scene did not help her drive away ‘that thought’ from her mind?

Even at the airport she was being haunted by the same depressing thoughts about her mother; she hid those thoughts with an artificial smile.
