But this reasoning is not in the fashion to choose me a husband.
O me, the word "choose" I may neither choose whom I would, nor refuse whom I dislike;
so is the will of a living daughter curbed by the will of a dead father.
Is it not hard, Nerissa, that I cannot choose one nor refuse none?

Answer:

the speaker is Portia,her late father had devised a lottery game according to which all the suitors have to take this test.

The test consists of three caskets,namely,lead ,silver and gold . The suitor who will choose the right casket that is lead in which portrait of Portia is kept inside will marry her.If he chose wrong casket he would immediately leave the palace with out a word and shall not be able to woo( or marry) any other woman as per the conditions.
