Answer:
From the very beginning, the United States were great producer and exporter of cotton as cotton was their most important agricultural product. But after the American Civil War, the production and export of cotton got only a few thousand bales because this production process of cotton was entirely depended on slaves. Later with the invention of the cotton gin by Eli Whitney made the production of cotton to jump into more hundred thousand bales.
Ultimately, by 1840, the production of cotton by the United States has increased to around 1.3 million bales. Thus they produced a huge quantity of cotton and exported to the Great Britain, who was their biggest consumers.
