Given : A shooter missed his target in the last 10 trials by the following distance (mm) during the practice session..

20,32,24,41,18,27, 15, 36, 35,25

To Find : quartile deviation and coefficient of quartile deviation

Solution

20,32,24,41,18,27, 15, 36, 35,25

arranging in Order

15 , 18  , 20  ,  24  , 25  , 27  , 32  , 35  , 36 , 41

Q₁  = 20

Q₃ = 35

Q₂ = ( 25 + 27)/2 = 26

quartile deviation =   (Q₃ - Q₁)/2

= ( 35 - 20)/2

= 15/2

= 7.5

coefficient of quartile deviation   =  (Q₃ - Q₁)/(Q₃ + Q₁)

= ( 35 - 20)/(35 + 20)

= 15/55

= 3/11

quartile deviation =  7.5

coefficient of quartile deviation  =  3/11
