By burning a piece of paper and a wooden piece and a wet cloth and ironrond what can you umderstand write in your own words

Different materials react differently when we try to burn them.

a) When you burn a piece of paper, it becomes ash almost immediately. With the help of oxygen in the air, the paper is burnt leaving behind ash and smoke.

b) When you try to light a piece of wood, the fire releases gases from the wood and they react with oxygen. Wood takes a longer time to burn as the reaction sustains for a longer time as the gases from the wood are released slowly and react with oxygen in the air making wood burn at a slower pace.

c) Wet cloth contains water molecules which prevent the cloth from catching fire easily. This is the reason why when we want to put of hazardous fire, we use a wet cloth.

d) When iron rod is put in fire, it does not burn as the rod does not release any gas and oxygen cannot penetrate the rod. You will observe after sometime that the surface of the rod becomes  flaky as it burn a little on the outside but the rod does not actually catch fire.
