Answer:

Solution:

The given equations are:

2x + y = -4 …………… (i)

5x – 3y = 1 …………… (ii)

Multiply equation (i) by 3, we get;

{2x + y = -4} …………… {× 3}

6x + 3y = -12 …………… (iii)

Adding (ii) and (iii), we get;

Elimination method

or, x = -11/11

or, x = -1

Substituting the value of x = -1 in equation (i), we get;

2 × (-1) + y = -4

-2 + y = -4

-2 + 2 + y = -4 + 2

y = -4 + 2

y = -2

Therefore, x = -1 and y = -2 is the solution of the system of equations 2x + y = -4 and 5x – 3y = 1
