Answer :

a = 5 , b = 1

Solution :

Here ,

The given equations are ;

-a + 9b = 4 --------(1)

2a - 4b = 6 --------(2)

Now ,

Multiplying eq-(1) by 2 , we get ;

=> 2•(-a + 9b) = 2•4

=> -2a + 18b = 8 ---------(3)

Now ,

Adding eq-(2) and (3) , we get ;

=> 2a - 4b - 2a + 18b = 6 + 8

=> 14b = 14

=> b = 14/14

=> b = 1

Now ,

Putting b = 1 in eq-(2) , we get ;

=> 2a - 4b = 6

=> 2a - 4•1 = 6

=> 2a - 4 = 6

=> 2a = 6 + 4

=> 2a = 10

=> a = 10/2

=> a = 5

Hence ,

a = 5 , b = 1
