If we assume that all of the points lie in the same plane and further,that no 3 of the pointa are colinear, then the maximum number of straight lines through any two of the points is given by : (n^2 - n)/2. So for a set of 4 points, the maximum number of lines would be (4^2 -4)/2 or (16 - 4)/2 = 12/2 or 6. I hope this helps.
