C in C2H5OH has a charge of -2. O always has an oxidation number of 2- and H always has an oxidation of +1. So 6 H and 1 O equals +4. The overall charge is 0, so C2 must equal -4, so one C is -2

C2H5OH + 3O2 ------> 3H20 + 2CO2

We can get CO2,water and energy.
