This is surely a very tricky question, but has a very simple solution. It is just a game of patience, logic and for sure formulas.

solution:-

let the S.P. of each greeting card= x

therefore, S.P. of 35 greeting cards= 35x

similarly, S.P of 5 greeting cards= 5x

hence, the shopkeepers S.P. is 35x and his loss is 5x

now,C.P of 35 greeting cards= S.P + loss

                                              = 35x+5x=40x

now loss percentag= (loss/C.P.)* 100

                              = ( 5x/40x)*100

                            (here, x will cancel out)

therefore, loss percent = 12.5% (answer)

Find the selling price of 35 cards:

selling price of 35 cards = 35x

Find the cost price of the 35 cards:

Cost Price of 35 cards = Selling Price + Loss

Cost Price of 35 cards = 35x + 5x = 40x

Find the loss:

Loss = Cost Price - Selling Price

Loss = 40x - 35x = 5x

Find the loss percentage:

Loss Percentage = ( loss ÷ cost price) x 100

Loss Percentage =( 5x/40x ) x 100 = 12.5%

Answer: he lost 12.5%
