have to find the loss percentage.

SP of 5 pens = 5x

Let the SP of a pen be x

So, the SP of 40 pens be 40x

We also know that the loss was equal to SP of 5 pens = 5x

★ Loss CP - SP

=>5x = CP - 40x => CP = 40x + 5x

=> CP = 45x

We also know that,

★ Loss% = (loss/CP) × 100

=> loss% = (5x/45x) x 100

=> loss% = 1/9 × 100

=> loss% = 100/9

=> loss% = 91/9

Therefore, the loss percentage of the shopkeeper iz 9 1/9.
