Let's solve the problem on saved quantity( not on price).

sold quantitysaved quantity=40%

⟹(7−x)x=0.4

⟹x=2

Hence he saved 2 oranges and sold 5 oranges in 10 rupee.

ALTERNATE:−

Let us assume person buy 7 orange

His cost of 7 orange =10

As he wants 40% profit ,

His selling price for 7 orange will be =10+40% of 10=14

Selling price of one orange =714=2

In 10 rupee number of orange he will sell =210=5
