GIVEN :-

  • Shopkeeper gains 30% by selling a ball for 39 Rs.

TO FIND :-

  • The selling price at which he would gain 40%.

SOLUTION :-

Let the cost of ball be 'x'.

The shopkeeper sold the ball at 39Rs with 30% profit .

→ x + [30% of x] = 39

→ x + (30x/100) = 39

→ x + (3x/10) = 39

→ 13x/10 = 39

→ 13x = 390

x = 30 Rs

Hence , cost of ball is 30Rs.

We have to find the selling price if the shopkeeper gained 40%.

Selling price = 30 [40% of 30]

Selling price = 30 + [(40/100)30]

Selling price = 30 + 12

Selling price = 42Rs

Hence , shopkeeper should sell the ball at 42Rs to gain 40% .
