Let consider the cost price be x.

Since 1500>1000

So,when he sells a calculator at Rs1000,some loss happen when he sells a calculator at Rs 1500,some profit happened.

As we know

 \: \large \sf \: \: loss = cost \: price - selling \: price

Now substitute the values

  \: \sf \: loss = x - 1000

As we know

 \: \large\sf \: profit = selling \: price - cost \: price

Now Substitute the values

 \: \sf \: profit = 1500 - x

Since the loss is thrice the profit

So,

 \: \sf \: loss = 3 \times profit \\ \\ \sf \: x - 1000 =3(1500 - x) \\ \\ \sf \: x - 1000 = 4500 - 3x \\ \\ \sf \: 4x = 5500 \\ \\ \sf \: x = 1375

So,the cost price is Rupees 1375.
