The cost price of clock = Rs. 300

Given :

By selling a clock at Rs. 375 , a shopkeeper gains 25%

To find :

The cost price of clock

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Form the equation

Let cost price of clock = Rs. 100x

Since shopkeeper gains 25%

So profit amount = Rs. 25x

Selling price

= Rs. 100x + Rs. 25x

= Rs. 125x

By the given condition

125x = 375

Step 2 of 2 :

Find cost price of clock

125x = 375

⇒ x = 375/125

⇒ x = 3

The cost price of clock

= Rs. 100x

= Rs. ( 100 × 3 )

= Rs. 300
