Question:

By selling an article for Rs.24, a trader loses as much percent as the cost price of the article. Calculate the cost price.

Answer:

Let us assume the cost price of the article = x

So,

→ Loss% = x%

→ S.P. = Rs 24

So,

→ Loss% = \frac{CP - SP}{CP} \times 100 \\

→ \: x = \frac{x - 24}{x} \times 100 \\

→ x² = −2400 + 100x

→ −60x − 40x + 2400 = 0

→ (x − 60) (x − 40) = 0

→ x = 60 or 40

So,

→ C.P. = Rs. 40

Hence our answer is Rs.40
