Let x be the cost price of article.

Therefore,

x−

100

20

x=700

x−

5

x

=700

5x−x=3500

x=

4

3500

=875

Thus the cost price of article is Rs.875.

Now to make profit of 20%,

Selling price

=875+

100

20

×875

=875+175=Rs.1050

Hence, to make 20% profit, the article should be sold for Rs.1050.

  • As per the data given in the question, we have to determine the required number.

            Given data:-  Selling price =700. and loss is 20\%.

            To find:- How much article will be sold.

           Solution:-

                 Let x be the cost price of the article.

                    Therefore,

                   \begin{array}{l}\mathrm{x}-\frac{20}{100} \mathrm{x}=700 \\\mathrm{x}-\frac{\mathrm{x}}{5}=700 \\5 \mathrm{x}-\mathrm{x}=3500 \\\mathrm{x}=\frac{3500}{4}=875\end{array}

   Thus the cost price of an article is Rs.\ 875.

   Now to make a profit of 20\%

   Selling price

         \begin{array}{l}=875+\frac{20}{100} \times 875 \\=875+175=\text { Rs. } 1050.\end{array}

 Hence, to make 20\% profit, the article should be sold for Rs.\ 1050..
