Cost price =

$\frac{100}{100 - loss\%} \times sp$

$cost \: price \: = \frac{100}{100 - 4} \times 1440 \\ = \frac{100}{96} \times 1440 = 1500$

Selling price of article to gain 16% =

$1500 \times \frac{16}{100} + 1500 \\ = 240 + 1500 \\ = 1740$

Article should be sold at Rs 1740 to gain profit of 16%
