x²-9x+8=0

x²-8x-x+8=0

x(x-8)-1(x-8)=0

(x-1)(x-8)=0

x=1, 8

Given :

x² - 9x + 8

To factorise by splitting middle term

so,

x² - 9x + 8

Multiplying coefficient of x² and constant we get 8

now,

two numbers we have to find whose sum will be (-9) and product will be 8

so

two numbers are (-1) and (-8)

check

(-1)×(-8) = 8

and

(-1) + (-8) = (-9)

so,

x² - 9x + 8

x² - 1x - 8x + 8

x(x-1) -8(x - 1) [taking x and 8 common]

(x - 8)(x - 1)

hence

two zeroes are 8 and 1
