In the year 2002, public transport of Delhi was switched over to a new fuel - CNG (Compressed Natural Gas).
- At the time, Delhi had been categorized as the fourth most polluted city in the world in a list of 41 cities.
- Massive consumption of fossil fuels has contributed to the pollution of the air in Delhi.
Why CNG was a better fuel:-
- It is a cleaner fuel than others that produces very few unburnt particles. Therefore, it is eco-friendly.
- It burns very efficiently, unlike petrol or diesel, and very little is left unburnt. It is also cheaper than petrol or diesel and cannot be adulterated.
- It also can't be stolen easily by thieves.
