By the time of Guru Amar Das, the number of Sikhs had greatly increased. It was very difficult for the Guru to reach all the Sikhs. So the Guru divided his spiritual empire into 22 parts, in which an influential Sikh was appointed. What is this system called?

The system is called Manjis.

Manjis is defined as "Sikh religious adminstrative unit". Guru Amar Das was the third leader of Sikhism.

Due to incresed number of people turning to the religion, Guru Amar Das could not individually attend each person for the teachings.

Therefore, chiefs were appointed who were known as Sangatias. Manji has literal meaning "cot".
